I has a 65 impala with a 283 in it. The guy I bought it from said it ran for him but I cant seem to get it to crank. He said he poured gas into the carb and it fired up. So I tried that with no result. It came close to catching but just keep trying. What else should I try or check. The car has been sitting for years and nothing has been changed on it.

Thanks

Check the ignition system-Get a helper disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine atleast 3/16 away from ground-have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark?

Check the coil and the ignition contact points-if its modified ignition HEI if so check the pick-up coil/coil and the ignition control module-to include power to the coil at positive terminal-Good Luck-HGappy Holidays
