Chevrolet Chevelle Radiator Problem

Replaced the water pump, car runs hot. mech said there is an air pocket that keps the coolant from flowing. there is no thermasat in the car currently. The top radiator hose gets hot but the bottom hose stays cool. The new gaskets are properly installed, the pump is new , and the radiator is free of obstructions. How do you get the air out of the engine?

that sounds to me like your thermostat is stuck shut,or that you have a cooling system restriction some where else.
