I recently replaced a head gasket after I notices a great amount of smoke pouring from the right head. After getting everything together, the car now has a knock in the right head and dies after about 30 sec of running. I have no idea where to start. I thought it might be timing but my buddy that is working on the car with me says that the distributer does an auto-adjust thing. Im not to car savy but he doesnt know where to start either. What do I do?

Please let me know what size engine you're dealing with (It says 2.7L V-8, but Ford didn't have a 2.7L V-8).

By the way, the distributor does not adjust (base) timing on its own. Base timing is what you set in order to get the engine started. Then you set it specifications using a timing light.
