I recently bought the Rx7 with 20***km on the engine since its rebuild. It's bridge ported and NA.
I bought a new starter Motor since the last was burnt out and an battery with a CCA of 610 which was recommended by other rotary enthusiasts. I made sure all replaced items had their wires reconnected firmly and checked the nodes to make sure they had good contact and no rust or carbon build up. The fuel pump engages and can be heard audibly, the carby sucks air in and is responsive as per the level of throttle. Pumping the throttling during wind up doesn't seem to get it any closer to starting.

The engine will turn over quite freely but will not start.

Any ideas?

First thing, check for a spark at each spark plug wire.
If no spark, then the problem is ignition related (and must be corrected before moving to other concerns.

Perform a compression check on the cylinder(s), good compression is around 100 PSI/7 kgf/cm2 or more. You may be able to "rent" a gauge from a local auto parts store.

Since this is a rotary engine, there is a special compression gauge needed for measuring the compression on the three faces of the rotor. However, in a pinch and if you only have the "normal" gauge, run the compression test (remove all spark plugs) and look for compression to be over 100 psi.

Let me know how the tests turn out.
