GLX Repair Questions and Answers

Question:
1993 Volkswagen GLX V-6 mileage: 128,000. I would
like to replace spark plugs but have difficulty in
removing plug wires from plugs due to excessive recess.
Do not want to pull on wires to separate them from
plugs. Is there a special tool required and
if so where can it be purchased? Does the plastic
shroud that is positioned in the center of the engine
come off? If so how? The screws that hold it
on are star bolts.
Answer:
Yes, there is a special tool needed to remove the spark
plug wires; it resembles a pair of pliers and it reaches
down into the recess. The “star bolts” you
referred to are torques head bolts and require a special
driver.
