MORE: Saturn L200 Repair Questions

Question:  2002 Saturn L200 Engine Size unknown Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 107,025 miles. My car is vibrating when stopped at red light and then just cuts off.

Answer:   Have the idle air control valve and EGR checked for a start then follow it with a fuel pressure check.

Question:  2001 Saturn L200 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 91,000 miles. I've had this problem for a little while, but at random times, it seems that most to all of my engine coolant leaks onto the floor board of the passenger side. It floods the carpet with fluid. It only occurs on the passenger side upfront and it leaks pretty good. When I took it in to check it out, it doesn't seem to leak. A pressure cap was placed onto the engine coolant container within the engine to force a leak but still nothing. Because the leak seems to start on the right side of the floor bed toward the door I think it may be coming from underneath the carpet. There is no obvious trail of the fluid following it to any parts. Thanks

Answer:  Its cut and dry. you have a leaking heater core. that is the only thing it can be. hope this helps.

Question:
My 2002 Saturn has been having trouble accelerating up hills. The RPMs increase and the engine gets louder, but the car continues at the same speed until the road flattens out. I have used "Gum-out" and this has not helped. You can almost see the fuel gauge go down, I drove approx 50 miles and it took a 1/4 tank of gas. Would really appreciate your expertise. I thought it may be the catalytic converter, but not sure.

Answer:   Sounds like a plugged catalytic converter.

Question:  2002 Saturn L200 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 84,200 miles I have a code po300(misfire). no spark on # 2&3 cylinders from coil pack. replaced coil pack and no change. what can it be? thanks!

Answer:   Could be a faulty crank or cam sensor.

Question:  1991 Saturn L200 4 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 190,000 miles. I am thinking about buying a 1991 Saturn from a private car lot for my teenage daughter to kick around in and everything about this car is a go except the speedo and odo doesn't work. Is this something major to repair? Can you give me an approximate price to fix this problem.

Answer: It depends on how the instrument cluster is designed. If it is cable driven, it shouldn't be a huge repair bill (less that $50 for parts and maybe a couple hours labor). But if it is electronic, it may need a new instrument cluster. Post back if you have further questions.

Question:  1995 Saturn L200 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 130,000 miles. Car will not pass smog because it is over heating what could the problem be?

Answer:    Dunno how bad is your overheating problem, try the thermostat for a start. Thermostat don't work get a block and pressure tests to find the problem.

Question:  2001 Saturn L200 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 108,000 miles. I recently purchased a 2001 Saturn L200 - the car runs great except when pushing the brake pedal the first time the pedal is low. After a second push (pump) the pedal comes up quite a bit and is firmer. Either time the car stops fine - it's just the pedal is lower than I'd like. Is the master cylinder bypassing? I thought if this was the case the pedal would sink to the floor and this is not the case. I had the brakes inspected and there is plenty of pad/shoe with no apparent leaks. Thanks

Answer:     Try this simple test...before you hit the brakes first thing in the am, pull the parking brake up, see if this brings up your pedal height, if it does, the rear brakes need adjustment or replacement! Check them before you adjust them, it will make it easier to get the drums off!

Question:  1998 Saturn L200 4 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 110,000 miles. I got a used car a month ago. I changed the engine oil from a known mechanic. The engine oil was up to the full mark. I drove almost 550 miles, and the engine oil level was up to middle of the dip-stick (just above low and below middle point of the dip-stick). I want to know, is it the regular consumption of the engine oil, or my car is using much than the regular. I want to tell you that there is no leakage of the engine oil. No smoke from the muffler. Good pick-up, but not very good. Engine is clean, means no noise and no pollution. smooth running. Please let me know the fault so that I can have my car last long. I shall be very thankful to you.

Answer:    If you have the ecotech motor the bigger concern for me is the timing belt tensioner failing from a plugged oil port.

Question:  2001 Saturn L200 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 77,000 miles. My daughter has an antifreeze leak she took it to the shop and was told she needed a new heater core. The shop called the extended warranty company and was told they do not cover it if though they do cover the radiator and it's parts. My question is is the heater core not part of the radiator?

Answer:    Technically the heater core is not part of the radiator cooling system. I personally tell my customers to avoid these after market policies, as they are so vague in there descriptions, it is easy for them to get out of making a payment.
