Repair Questions and Answers

Question: 1987 Renault
25 GTS mileage: 75,000. My car has been off the
road for about 4 months. During the recent fuel crisis
in the U.K., I put 4 gallons of 4 star petrol in as a
stand by in case the family car ran out of petrol. I
decided to put the Renault back on the road and after
recharging the battery the car started and appeared to
run sweet enough. However after about a quarter of a
mile the engine began to four stroke, (dull heavy engine
noise and not answering the accelerator) When I
accelerated hard, the engine began to respond correctly,
but when I eased off the throttle the engine reverted to
its previous behavior before cutting out. I had to fight
this behavior in order to stagger back home. The car
originally was converted from 4 star to unleaded petrol
some years ago, and since then, I have occasionally put
a little 4 star in with no problems. Sorry if this is a
little long winded but I feel the more detail I give the
better.
Answer: We suspect that
it is carbureted. If so, you probably have some dirt in
the carburetor. Try replacing the fuel filter and
cleaning out the carburetor.
Question:
Renault 19 TD mileage: 109,000 . My gearbox moves a
lot. What can I do?
Answer: Check
your motor and transmission mounts as one may be broken
or separated.
