Repair Questions and Answers

Question:
1985 Pontiac Fiero V6 mileage: 185,000. My wife's
'85 Pontiac Fiero had been running fine all day Friday.
Came out to start it Saturday morning and it wouldn't
start. Engine turns over just fine. Plenty
of gas in the tank. Just won't fire up?
Should I smell gas when pumping pedal? It's
fuel injection so I'm not sure. Removed a plug and
checked for a spark while my wife turned it over, didn't
see one? Both the coil and what ever it plugs into
at the base of the distributor cap tested fine according
to the local Auto parts store down the street. I'm
at a loss; any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Answer:
Here are some things to have checked: 1. Check to
see if the timing belt/chain has failed, 2. Check for
ignition spark at spark plugs, 3. Check for fuel
pressure, 4. Scan P.C.M. (computer) for fault or error
codes. The information should pinpoint the
malfunctioning components.
Question: 1984 Pontiac Fiero 4 cyl
mileage: 135,000 I have a problem with my clutch. It
seems as though one of the clutch cables is either loose
or broken. Once the car is in gear, I can still freely
move the shifter back and forth. I cannot shift out of
that gear though. The clutch does release the engine,
but I cannot change gears. Any thoughts on how to fix
this and how much it would cost to do so? Just for the
record, the clutch itself is relatively new, as is the
engine.
Answer: It sounds like the shifter and
linkage bushings are worn out.
