Mitsubishi Diamante Repair Questions and Answers

Question: 1992 Mitsubishi Diamante
mileage: 185,000. We have been told that our ABS system
has failed, and that this is the reason that we are
experiencing about 50% of our braking power. Apparently,
the right front and left rear are working, but not the
other brakes. In order for us to replace the ABS
hydraulic and control system, we need the unit part
numbers or we can't locate the parts needed. Can you
help, as we will have to replace these ourselves as the
cost is prohibitive to have a dealer complete it for us,
and we really love the car overall. Your help in this
regard will be sincerely appreciated.
Answer:
Check the master cylinder, as it may be the source of
your problem.
Question:
1992 Mitsubishi Diamante mileage: 110,000. I
would like to know if you can help me find a repair
manual for this car.
Answer: The
Michel1 is a good
source for repair manuals or try your local public
library.
Question:
1992 Mitsubishi Diamante mileage: 110,000. I
was told my car needed the valve seals in the engine
replaced, and my husband wants to do the work himself.
The problem is we can't find a repair manual or any
other info to help him. Can you help us find any
kind of manual, video, etc. for my car? Can you
give me any advice on any of the above to replace the
valve seals and/or rebuild the whole engine?
Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated
because if my husband can do this work himself it will
save us at least $1500.
Answer: If you are considering rebuilding
your engine, we would suggest getting an already rebuilt
engine and “swapping” it for yours. To replace the
valve stem seals, remove the cams and apply air pressure
in the spark plug hole to hold the valves up.
Next, remove the valve keepers and retainers to expose
the seal.
Question:
1993 Mitsubishi Diamante mileage: 120,000.
Ok... my Diamante brake system is not
working correctly. The right front and left rear
brakes seem to be working fine, but the left front and
right rear are slow to start working, and then after
releasing the pedal it takes a couple of seconds for
them to release. My mechanic told me that the
master cylinder needed to be replaced so I paid to have
that done. This did not fix the problem.
Now he is telling me that it is the ABS Unit. He
also said that the master cylinder was definitely bad
and needed to be replaced regardless of the fact that it
didn't fix the problem. I have a hard time
believing it is the ABS unit. When you push hard
on the brakes the ABS appears to be working correctly.
In addition, there is no ABS light on... any ideas guys?
Thanks...
Answer:
From what you describe, it does sound like the ABS unit
may be faulty.
