Repair Questions and Answers

Question:
1995 Eagle Talon TSI? Mileage: 50,000.
First off let me say thank you for your help.
I'm a female having car problems and would like to go to
the mechanic with some idea of what may be wrong with my
car. My Talon is cutting out/jerking upon
acceleration, or may the wheels might be slipping (can't
really tell). The car is turbo charged (hope it's
not this). Could my problem be clutch (it's a 5
speed), turbo charger, transmission, or possibly bad
fuel? I ALWAYS use premium gas as requested by the
manufacturer. Please help!
Answer:
We think your stalling problem may be cause by the fuel
pump. Replacing it and the fuel filter should fix
your problem.
Question:
1995 Eagle Talon ESI 2.0 mileage: 35,500. Dear Bob
and Ken: When driving my car I can smell unburned gas
fumes in the car. I noticed that it only
does this in the afternoon (lunch time) and my drive
home versus in the morning when it is still cool
outside. I live in Phoenix, Arizona, how
cool can it be. I thought it may be the charcoal
canister, but the car only has around 35,000 miles on
it. Any suggestions? Thanks,
Answer:
Check the fuel rail that supplies fuel to the injectors.
It may be leaking.
Question:
1994 Eagle Talon 2.0 DOHC mileage: 110,000. I'm
trying to replace my brake rotors, and can't get them
off. Do I need a special "gear-puller" type of
tool, or a bigger hammer?
Answer:
The rotors should come off easily. Yours may be
rusted on. Try soaking with WD-40.
Question:
1990 Eagle Talon TSI--AWD 2.0 turbo mileage: 200,000.
This car started smoking and using LOTS of oil within a
short time--still runs good, no knocks, etc., but will
burn almost 4 quarts of oil in 45 miles, so don't dare
drive it anymore. Is a different/new engine the
only option; could it be the turbo and replacing that
would solve the problem? Local mechanic
says, "find it a new home".
Answer:
From what you describe, the seal in the turbo has failed
or the oil return line is plugged. Check the
return line first.
Question:
1994 Eagle Talon Turbo mileage: 86,000. I'm having
trouble with my car (94 Eagle Talon) shifting to a
higher gear in automatic transmission. This
occurred shortly after we accidentally let it run really
low on gas. I promptly used a bottle of fuel
injector cleaner afterwards in hopes of fixing this.
It helped a little, but if the car hasn't been driven
for a while (especially when cold in the mornings) it
won't shift into a higher gear on it's own. I have
to manually shift from 1st to 2nd and stay in that gear
for a while to rev it up enough to shift to Drive.
Then usually it will be fine after that, but won't do it
on it's own. Does this sound like a transmission
or fuel problem? My car also has problems idling
since I bought it 9 months ago. It revs loudly
when idling, but is fine when in drive or neutral.
Thanks for any information you may have.
Answer: Have transmission serviced (change
fluid and filter). After driving several days with
new fluid, it may start shifting correctly. Your
car may be ready for a major tune-up including spark
plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, fuel filter
and air filter. Also, perform a fuel pump pressure
test. Clean fuel injection system including
throttle bore, idle speed control motor and passages.
If problem still exists, scan computer for trouble codes
