Hyundai Tiburon Car Repair Questions and Answers

Question:    2003 Hyundai Tiburon 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 56,000 miles In Arizona, my car has failed the emission check, due to the "DRIVE CYCLE" is not set. What does this mean? How do I reset or setup this drive cycle? I'm told you have to run the vehicle through several scenarios, however I have not been able to find out what these scenarios are.

Answer:    How long did you drive vehicle? how many days?

Question (Follow Up):    My son drives the car to school, maybe 5 miles one way. And to work, about 1 mile one-way. Mostly short trips, no longer than 5 minutes running time. He's been on maybe 2 trips onve 40 miles one-way, on the interstate, no stops.

Answer (Follow Up):    They say it could take up to a week of regular driving to set the drive cycles. if it wont set the drive cycles usual problem is bad thermostat or bad intake air temp sensor

Question (Follow Up):    We've had the car for 6 months, but he has not been on many trips of different driving scenarios.

Answer (Follow Up):    If you have been driving it for that long there is definitely a problem. how the drive cycle works is the computer checks the outside ambient temperature and compares it to the engine cooling system temp and it needs to see they are equal when a cold start condition occurs. I find most causes is a out of sync outside temp sensor or engine coolant temp sensor. The other problem is the computer may not have memory power and the computer keeps resetting. the power supplies will have to be checked

Question:    2004 Hyundai Tiburon 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 31,000 miles. I have plenty of heat while my car is in motion. As soon as I stop or am idling, the air from the heater turns cold.

Answer:    Check the thermostat and coolant level.

Question:    2000 Hyundai Tiburon 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 88,000 miles car lost power and engine noise began some say it sounds like a bad lifter, oil is good show no signs of leaks and all maintenance has been keep up.

Answer:    Check engine light On? What it means is the computer has stored an OBD2 code/s and the only way to find out what's the problem within the engine management is to get scanned for code/s- AutoZone provides this service for free and can remedy the problem on the spot if you wish.

Question:    2004 Hyundai Tiburon 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 32000 miles my brother recently gave me his 2004 Hyundai Tiburon. it has a flood title on it but the engine and all of the electrical components work fine. the interior is in good condition except for the middle of the steering wheel and the dashboard. you can see the outline of where the airbags are located. it looks like the covers stick out a little but are not torn off from airbag deployment. I want to know if the airbags still work, or how to find out if they still work and if they can be replaced if they don't.

Answer:    Under normal conditions if the SRS warning light is not on the system is active. As far as water damage to igniters and other components, that is a bit of a mystery. I would suggest that you contact Hyundai direct (not dealer) and talk to customer relations, they may be able to short cut you to the main technical department (who advise to dealerships on training and problem cars) re the possibilities of air bag damage.

Question:    1999 Hyundai Tiburon 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 205000 miles My clutch seems like it has lagging when I accelerate. When I first drive the car after it's been sitting for a while and it's cooler outside the lagging is less severe. As the vehicle warms up and I drive longer the clutch seems like it slips and the vehicle over revs and doesn't accelerate quickly. I'm sure the clutch is going but do u think it's a belt of some sort that expands when it warms up which makes it slip. I would like to know if I need to replace the whole system or part of it? Thanks for your time.

Answer:    If your clutch is slipping, there is no adjustments you can make. You will have to replace the clutch assembly and machine the fly wheel.
