MORE: Hyundai Sonata Repair Questions

Question:    2002 Hyundai Sonata 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 108,000 miles We recently had a snow storm and while driving on the highway I spun out into a median which had about a foot of snow. I was able to get out and the car looked fine but once I got to about 60mph the car would shake pretty severely. It seemed as if the shaking was coming from the passenger side, but I wasn't sure. Any idea what could be the problem? Thanks

Answer:    The wheels are out of balance from Ice/snow in the wheels. They need to be thoroughly defrosted to get rid of the "new wheel weights".

Question:    2002 Hyundai Sonata 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 98,000 miles. About a month ago my car was shaking and there was barely any acceleration when I would hit the gas until I started going then it was fine but it was still shaking. My mechanic said it was the Engine coils, So I got both changed. Now the engine light is back on and once again barely any acceleration but this time its not shaking. It seems to start ok, and again once I get to a certain speed its fine until I stop. Please help Ive spent enough money on this problem to have it happen again. Thanks you very much.

Answer:    Check engine will come on every time computer detect a problem and will set a code
indicating troubled area as a 1st step you need to have the system scanned for code s you can try local part store or shop for help with reading and getting the codes you may post them here for more help good luck

Question:    1998 Hyundai Sonata 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 156,000 miles I can hear the starter motor shot out the turning gear but I don't hear the motor "fly wheel' attempting to turn, one of the large belts, their are two, one thin the other large, has groves missing, is it just the large belt or can something else be wrong, how can I replace the large belt

Answer:    If the belt grooves run across the belts width, then you have a timing issue at the least. cogged timing belt systems are very sensitive to being out even 1 cog. No alignment, no start. If groove runs around perimeter of belt then should be no problem. This system is mandated by Hyundai to have all belts changed at 60,000 miles. A lot of unnecessary damage can occur if a belt fails. Dealer charges about $1200+ to service this system as a lot of parts need to be replaced while it is unassembled for precautionary measures ie. water pump, balance shaft, idler pulleys and all belts. Very labor intensive to set and maintain proper timing when assembly takes place.

Question:    1995 Hyundai Sonata can anyone tell me why my door does not open at all, no matter what I do. I would like to get access so need to remove the door panel, to see if can spot the problem, however I am unsure how to do this as I do not want to cause any unnecessary damage by trying to force something that does not move, I have already tried to remove it by what I can see to be a retaining screw which is on the lock itself, but no joy, can someone please help me

Answer:    Most door panels pop off. Be sure you have any and all screws out, look for decorative plugs hiding them, especially on the arm rest/door pull handle. Then start at the bottom and pop the panel off. Sounds like this might be a bad latch assembly or the such if neither handle will open it. Does the lock work? it may be stopping the handles from working as well

Question:    1999 Hyundai Sonata 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 101000 miles Been a while since I got back to this forum. My previous problems were eliminated by replacing CPS Trouble code pointed to this one and replacing sparkplugs and plug wires again trouble code helped this one (misfire on cylinder 1). I now get code 1154. I removed the bank 2 (closest to radiator) sensor 1 (closest to exhaust manifold) and cleaned it with carb cleaner and heated it. Code cleared by battery disconnect. Code reappears after about 15 miles of drive time. Should I now replace the sensor or should I look for some other problem causing this? The car runs fine and strong. Also can you tell me how to get at the windshield washer pump motor? The HMA service website has nothing on this. Thanks again for all your help

Answer:    Cleaning o2 sensors doesn't work, they usually need to be replaced. The washer pump should be at the bottom of the washer fluid reservoir, if you remove the res, should be right there

Answer:    Get your entire evaporative system checked out-it has pressure and its no purging.

Question:    2001 Hyundai Sonata 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 94,000 miles I've looked in the owner's manual, but there aren't detailed enough instructions on how to change a burned-out headlamp bulb. In talking with other people, I've been told that there should be a tab behind the headlamp assembly to pull out the old bulb and replace it with the new one (I've already bought the H7 bulb). Other people tell me that I need to remove the bolts holding in the entire assembly in order to access the bulb. Before I go taking out more than I need to, can you give me step-by-step instructions on how to remove the burned-out bulb and install the new one? Thanks for clearing up this confusion. Rev. Dr. Karl R. Kraft

Answer:    Remove the three retainers and the 10mm bolt and remove the trim cover. Remove the round dust cover from the back of the lamp. Unplug the bulb. Take the bulb retaining clip loose from the hook that holds it. Remove the old bulb. Install the new bulb with the tab facing up and clip in place. Plug in the new bulb.

Question:    1993 Hyundai Sonata 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 89,152 miles When the gas tank is laying on the ground the car will run, but when i put it back up into the car the car wont start. I have no clue why this could be and I was just wondering if you guys have any ideas..

Answer:    Sounds to me like you have a loose electrical connector or a bad wire, also the fuel lines may be kinking off when being placed back up there.

Question:    2001 Hyundai Sonata 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 68000 miles The vehicle was broadsided in the area of the rear wheel. The wheel is leaning (neg. camber) about 10 degrees. What component would fail first? the arms look and I believe the curvature of the spindle failed?

Answer:    You will have to consider all the rear suspension components , and the strut top mounting in the body. The most obvious would be the stub axle assembly . lower control arm, and trailing arm. You will have to have the rear end alignment checked as a Deg or 2 will be enough to destroy a new tire very quickly and give driving stability problems as well.

Question:    2005 Hyundai Sonata 6 cyl Two wheel drive Automatic 58,000 miles Any one know where I can find a Serpentine Belt Routing diagram for a 2005 Hyundai Sonata.

Answer:    let me know if thats what are u looking for

Question:    2002 Hyundai Sonata Engine Size unknown Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 60000 miles
several times my batter light has come on, and each time I check the battery, there would be corrosion and a slight chemical smell, so I would clean it off. Then the light will go off. Recently the same thing happened, but when I cleaned the battery this time the light stayed on. So a got a new battery. But the light is still on. A friend says that it's my alternator, and my brother says it's the wiring to the battery or engine. The cost of an alternator job would be about $2000. Can you give me a clue as to what to check next. I do not want to spend money needlessly

Answer:    you need a new alternator. when the battery light comes on it really has nothing to do with the battery. it is the volt regulator is not toggling to charge which turns the ground to 12v positive thus shutting off the light. unless you have a wiring issue which you probably don't. id replace the alternator. i hope this helps.

Question:    2002 Hyundai Sonata 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 54000 miles Why wont my brake lights turn off they are on all the time when you turn on the lights

Answer:    Find the brake switch on the brake pedal bracket and try to adjust it-unable to do it -replace it.
