Honda CRX Repair Questions
Question: 1987 Honda CRX
mileage: 161,000. I've had an intermittent
no-start condition with my fuel-injected
CRX, which has now become a total no-start
condition. I've suspected the ignition
system, and I've replaced the ignition
module, coil, cap, rotors, wires, and plugs.
I am concentrating on the ignition system
because the fuel pump is definitely pumping
gas. (I have taken carburetor cleaner and
sprayed it directly into the intake manifold
to test for a no-fuel problem and still it
won't start.) The problem is like an on-off
switch, when it starts it starts and runs
fine and otherwise it won't start. Even
though it won't start, I still get a spark.
I have replaced ignition components thinking
that it was a weak spark, as I read in
another question on this site, and I've
steered away from labeling the fuel system
as the culprit because of dumping the carb
cleaner straight into the intake - I don't
get a sputter or anything, there is no
reaction whatsoever. In addition I've tested
battery voltage - it seems to be 12.5V volts
and the battery is good. I hope you can tell
me something I'm missing.
Answer: Do a fuel pump pressure test
as you may need a new fuel pump. Your problems may be
related to lack of fuel. By the way, carburetor cleaner
will not start an engine.
Question:
1986 Honda CRX SI
mileage: 110,000. I am having a problem with
the fuel system. My fuel pump is making a
high pitch squeal almost constantly. I replaced
the filter, and the pump, but the noise persists.
This is the third pump I’ve tried. The noise is
coupled with a loss of power in 2nd and 3rd gear.
Might this be a problem with the fuel injectors?
Answer: Assuming you used a good
quality fuel pump, your problem may be the fuel pressure
regulator.
Question:
1989 Honda CRX mileage: 129,000. I changed
the gaskets between the down pipe and manifold and now
the car wont start. I have cleaned the plugs
and the engine looked flooded. When I put the
clean plugs back in it nearly started and then flooded
again. Before I changed the gaskets there was a
lot of exhaust in the engine compartment - is this the
cause. Thanks a lot for any help!
Answer:
Check for loose or broken ground wires or wiring looms
that are disconnected. In addition, scan the
computer for fault codes.

1987 Honda CRX mileage: 116,000. Hello, the car
sat for four months because it needed a head gasket
replaced. Therefore, I did the repair and now it
does not want stay running as if it is starving for gas.
If you keep jacking the gas pedal, it will just idle.
If you spray carburetor cleaner in the carburetor it
will run. Float problem or not?
Answer:
From what you describe, it sounds like you need a
carburetor overhaul. In addition, check for vacuum
leaks.
Question:

keeps going up when radiator fan turns on. Just
had carburetor rebuilt and tailpipe smells rich?
Distributor was diagnosed, as being bad can this be the
problem?
Answer:

Does not sound like an ignition problem to us.
