Geo Tracker Car Repair Questions and Answers

Question:    1993 Geo Tracker 4 cyl four wheel drive Automatic 30056 miles. what is a manual hub and where do I find it to change to 4wd?

Answer:    Manual hubs are located in the center of the hub where the front wheel mounts. Should have 2 marks on it "lock" and "free" turn with your hand or if too tough, carefully use pliers

Question:    1996 Geo Tracker 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 83,000 miles. I have this geo tracker that hesitates into forward. any suggestions. this happened after rebuild. thank you in advance

Answer:    It happened after the tranny was rebuilt? Take it back to the re builder, there is a pressure problem!

Question:    1996 Geo Tracker 4 cyl four wheel drive Automatic 120,000 miles Left rear brake drags and gets hot. Right front also drags slightly. Replaced left rear wheel cylinder. When left rear shoe adjusts, they drag again. Return springs seem fine. Is this a master cylinder issue? Any way to repair or fix this without replacement? Could I just flush the system or examine the master cylinder for anything that's broken or not in place?

Answer:    You can check the injector pulse with a node light. There are also some relay's that could be bad, or try some sitar in the throttle body, if it runs a few seconds and dies, the fuel pressure or injectors. If it doesn't fire at all, then spark, distributor equipped cars have an ignition module that can go bad. Module is located inside the distributor, believe it or not you can buy a reman'd distributor w/new ignition module cheaper than the module itself.

Question:    1997 Geo Tracker 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 105,00 miles. Where is the pcv valve located on my Geo? I was told it was on the valve cover but there is nothing visible, is it buried under something?

Answer:    If not in the front, in the rear.

Question:    1994 Geo Tracker 4 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual 140,000 miles. How to remove locknut without buying special socket?

Answer:    The best thing is to use a socket, years ago we used a hammer and chissel. if you really don't know how to do it then I wouldn't advise it. borrow a socket from somebody, some places like auto zone do lend out tools try that.

Question:    1996 Geo Tracker Two Wheel Drive Automatic 99,912 miles. How do we open the hood, we have looked all over the driver side compartment and could not find the hood release.

Answer:    The hood latch is in the glove box, upper part.

Question:    I have a 1991 Geo Tracker and the fuel gauge never moves, it stays at 3/4 full at all times. Any suggestions on what may be causing this?

Answer:    It could be as simple as a loose wire, or as tough as having to replace the sending unit in the fuel tank. You'll have to trace the wire from the gauge to the tank for beginners.

Question:    I have a 96 Geo Tracker with about 150,000 on it when I got up this morning and started to drive the car I heard a strange noise coming from the dash around the speedometer suddenly it jus went from the normal speed I was going to 100 then when I slowed down it went back to normal but as soon as I tried to go over 35 it acted up again so I'm no sure if its the Sensor or the Cable

Answer:    Open the dash up and investigate the speedo head and cable-probably came loose or worn drive.

Question Follow Up:    I opened the dash and changed the cable but i think its were the cable goes in that is the problem anyone know where i can get the part do i have to go directly to the Chevy Dealership or can I get from a salvage place?

Answer Follow Up:    Get it from the junkyard dogs-its cheaper

Question:    Where is the fuel filter on a 91 GEO Tracker ?

Answer:    If you look under the back end, directly in front of your gas tank, it is mounted to the floor/frame towards the passenger side, look in front of the tank and you should be able to see it

Question:    My Geo Tracker '94 with 50,000 miles is stuck in park. It start nicely but when I push the back drive button it is still stuck in park. I took the steering wheel and pushed the back drive cable to its full range with no help. All fuses are good.

Answer:    There is a little cover on the left side of the shifter console. Remove the one screw and if you reach inside you'll find a short lever that you move (i think towards the rear) one way or the other and that will manually release the shifter if your key is on and the brake is depressed. Now you can take it to somebody that can diagnose your trouble.

Question:    95 geo tracker 160,000 miles, 1.6L, check engine light just came on, went to check the codes, with a snap-on code checker, and it said there was a 6 pin connector , by the left strut tower at the firewall that needed 2 pins shorted, I cant find it, how do I check the codes?

Answer:    The connector on my 95 geo is actually just in front of the battery at the bottom center. It has a rubber cover over it. If you short the same ones as when you time the car then you need to run a wire between number 4 and 5 holes. Begin number one with the hole with nothing in it and count left to right.

Question:    Hello. Can a 1990 Geo Tracker engine (or at least the crankshaft) go into a 1994 Geo Tracker? Thank you

Answer:    Is the 8th digit of the vin# the same? If so then they should be interchangeable as far as the block and head. I would use all external parts off the old engine that is the correct year

Question:    Hey guys my question is an 1991 geo tracker, turn the key nothing happens, its a 5 speed can push to start but soon as I turn off it wont start back, I cleaned the post and cable still nothing, when I try to use cables to jump off nothing happens, what should I try next?

Answer:    I assume the battery is good. There is a switch that when the clutch is depressed, will allow the key to start the motor cranking.
