Ford Expedition Repair Questions
Question: 1999 Ford Expedition mileage: 90,000. We tested the SRS. The malfunction Indicator blinked Code 52. Checking DERM we found some water at that area and we thought this the cause of the fault. After replacing DERM, the vehicle operated without trouble, but only for two weeks. After this period, our client came again for service: MIL of SRS blinked trouble Code 12. The fuse of the system has blown. Fitting in a new fuse the MIL blinked Code 52 again. We didn't find any trouble as before. Shall we replace DERM again? What would be the cause of the repeated fault? Can you give us some idea? (Unfortunately, we haven't DRB for this model because there are only a dozen Expeditions in our country) Awaiting for your reply, Regards from Hungary, Budapest.
Answer: You should replace the DERM again. However, before you do, check the wiring looms in the engine compartment for damage or bad connections. Also, check the ground connections for high resistance. Either a shorted or a bad connection will overload the 12 volts causing the failure you described.
Question: 2003 Ford Expedition mileage: 22,000. Why would my radiator water always be foamy like soap? What's the cause of this? And is there a fix? Water is clear clean coolant green. Foam is clear clean white. I notice no leaks. However, I am always having to add water to the radiator. Much steam from rear tail pip in the mornings. I have been smelling the radiator water. Sometimes I think it smells like maple if that makes any sense.
Answer: It sounds like a cracked cylinder head and or a blown head gasket is causing the problem you described.
Question: 2002 Ford Expedition mileage: 40,000. I had the antilock brake light come on and then my rear brakes locked up. I took my Expedition in for repair. I told a local repair shop my trouble and they said they thought the problem was in some junction block in the front of the vehicle but said I would have to take it to a dealer because of the antilock problem. I took it to the dealer and they began replacing all the parts on my brakes such as new front brake pads, calipers, lines, rear brake drums, wheel cylinders, master cylinder and so on. This over a period of a year telling me nothing was wrong with the antilock system. Meanwhile the ABS light has always stayed on and the rear brakes continue to lock up. It has now been in the shop for two weeks and they can't seem to find the problem. Do you have any ideas? I am getting
more desperate and broke by each repair. Answer: We have repaired vehicles with similar problems by replacing the rear brake shoes with brand new, not relined, purchased from a quality parts warehouse, we have had great luck with www.eautopartstore.com. Also, replace all the rear brake hardware, springs, etc.
