Citroen Repair Questions and Answers

Question:  1991 Citroen AX 1000 cc mileage: 100,000.  Hi, this is my problem.  When I start the car in the morning I pull the choke fully open, then the car starts but it stalls and I can’t start it again unless I close the choke and turn the engine for along time with the pedal down all the way, (it’s not always working) while I’m trying I often hear backfires.  I might get along with it but this is my wife's car and she cannot do it every morning.  Thanks for your advice.

Answer: Your car may be ready for a major tune-up including spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, fuel filter and air filter.  Also, perform a fuel pump pressure test.  Clean the choke linkage on the carburetor and make sure that the choke mechanism works properly.
