Chrysler LHS Car Repair Questions and Answers

Question: 1997 Chrysler LHS mileage: 89,000. I have an intermittent stalling problem. There doesn't seem to be a pattern of heat or acceleration etc, to cause the stall. Typically though it is during cruise speeds and once every 30 to 50 miles. The engine will quit immediately and completely. Initially I could restart during coast in neutral. Now the problem is more frequent and requires time before a restart. I suspect fuel starvation. After sitting for 5 to 20 minutes it will start again and run normally. A Precision Tune shop did all the checks and found nothing wrong and could not recreate the problem. Within the next 30 miles of driving it failed twice. A friend describes a similar experience with a 1997 Chrysler mini-van which was fixed with a new fuel pump. Any connection here? I have replaced the fuel filter already with no change.

Answer: It sounds like your fuel pump is bad or a faulty crankshaft position sensor. You should have a mechanic scan for trouble codes and see if all your sensors are working.

Question: 1996 Chrysler / LHS 3.6 mileage: 72,000. Check engine light is on, idles rough. Had the car in the shop and they gave me a long laundry list of about $900 worth of stuff to fix which included, fan belts, timing belt, and water pump. In May the timing belt broke, so we had that replaced, along with the water pump. The code when you do the key thingy, says O2 sensor. This car had 4 of them, at about $90 each. I picked the cheapest one of them and replaced it. Unplugged the battery and it went out for about 2 weeks. Now it is back on. My question is this: the car runs fine other than the rough idle, will one of the O2 sensors being bad cause my problems? Is there any easy way to check them without paying an arm and a leg?

Answer: A bad oxygen sensor will cause an engine to run poor. If you have the computer scanned, it will tell you which of the oxygen sensors has failed.

Question: 1994 Chrysler lhs mileage: 75,989.  When I come to a stop the tachometer reads about 800 rpm, within 5 seconds I can watch the tachometer drop about 150-200 rpm's.  I have replaced the map sensor.  Where else should I look? By the way, the computer doesn't show any codes.

Answer: Try replacing the oxygen sensor, as it appears it may be deteriorating.

Question: 1994 Chrysler LHS mileage: 67,750.  I recently purchased this car and the keyless remote FOB's do not work.  The batteries are all brand new and both remote units have good electrical connections.  I thought it needed reprogramming until today.  The car was sitting out while I was working and the exterior temperature was around 30 degrees F.  After starting, just for fun, I tried the FOB and the doors locked.  I repeatedly locked and unlocked the car while driving.  After the car was warmed up, the remote failed to work again.  I am thinking that the receiver has a loose wire or something, but I cannot find where the receiver or the antenna is.  Every manual I try shows nothing about the remote door locks.  Can you provide me any information to help me out?  I want to try doing this myself, because I feel it will be pretty simple, but I am stumped on where to look in a car filled with electronic "goodies".  Thanks in advance for your help, and I look forward to your response.

Answer: Check the electrical power and ground connections to the receiver.  It is located under the dash cover on the passenger side.
