Chrysler Lebaron Car Repair Questions and Answers

Question: 1994 Chrysler Lebaron mileage: 87,000. I purchased a Lebaron about 2 months ago. I really don’t want to put any money into it but there's a couple of things I need two fix. There’s a hesitation when I step on the gas and sometimes when I’m stopped it’ll cut off. Now I raised the idle a little and re-gapped my plugs I’m going now to change my fuel filter and check my timing can you guys tell me if I missed anything? Also, does dry gas really work? I plan on buying another car but right now I need this one two get me back and forth to work. HELP PLEASE. Also, where is my EGR located?
Answer: Dry gas will work if there is a slight amount of water in the gas tank. Your car may be ready for a major tune-up including spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, fuel filter and air filter. Also, perform a fuel pump pressure test. Clean fuel injection system including throttle bore, idle speed control motor and passages. If problem still exists, scan computer for trouble codes. The EGR valve is located on the intake manifold by the master cylinder.
Question: 1992 Chrysler Lebaron Convertible with V6 3.0L mileage 74,000. The problem that I seem to be having is a water puddle under my driver seat. I have changed the weather stripping all around the door and the small piece on the rear window. I don't think its the air conditioning because the puddle doesn't show up when I run the air conditioning. I also checked the drain tube on the firewall and it is draining water out like it should. I also took a garden hose to the driver side window and I don't see any water flowing down on the other side of the glass. I'm stumped and confused. Is there something that I didn't check or replace? If I don't get this fixed I will definitely have a major problem with my floor rusting out with all that water sitting there all the time. It appears to be about a cup of water.
Answer: If we had your car in front of us, we would very carefully pull back the upholstery and or carpet and check for water stains that would indicate the direction of the leak then trace it back to the source of the problem. You could have a poor fitting door gasket, a faulty fresh air vent, or windshield gasket.
Question: 1984 Chrysler Lebaron mileage: 147,000. I just bought this car from an older couple it looked great and ran great. Until my seventeen year old son overheated it. When we bought it, the guy said that there was a leak in the cooling system that he could not find. Well I found it! It is coming from the head gasket into the # 1 cylinder. No antifreeze has gotten in the oil so do you think that just changing the head gasket will solve the problem? Any help or tips would be great.
Answer: In addition to replacing the head gasket, we would recommend resurfacing the cylinder head and checking it for cracks.
Question: 1993 Chrysler Lebaron 3.0 mileage: 100,000. Dear Bob and Ken, I recently bought a 1991 Chrysler LeBaron convertible and haven't had any problems until NOW. The problem I have is with my alarm system. It is a key entry optional feature with the car and it will not reset. I can't start my car because the antitheft system is still activated some how. I have checked the owner's manual for guidance and also the fuses for any that may have blown. Nothing I've done has worked. Is this a problem that occurs often with this model? Is there a button to reset that I don't know about or some wiring that I can check? I hope you will be able to help me in this mater. It has been a good car since I have owned it and would like to keep it. A Concerned Chrysler Owner
Answer: Chrysler dealers are the only ones with the information to reset your alarm system for anti-theft reasons.
Question: 1992 Chrysler Lebaron unsure.4 or 6c mileage: 103,012. Dear Sirs, My question is: My '92 Chrysler LeBaron has recently been losing power at times on acceleration it continues to run at these times but won't pick up to more than 20 or 30 miles per hour. Then it begins to run hot.... after cooling off it starts back fine and sometimes will run an hour to 30 minutes before the same thing happens again. Have had it to two different mechanics that can't seem to figure out what is wrong with it. Any information you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Answer: Scan the computer for trouble codes and perform a fuel pump pressure check.
Question: 1993 Chrysler Le Baron mileage: 94,000. My wife started up the car about a month ago, she tried to turn on the radio...radio, and the digital instrument cluster went out as soon as she touched the power button. Since this happen, the battery won't hold a charge. I've charged the battery and checked the alternator. Also, I've checked the fuses and looked to see if any wires were grounding out the circuit. I can't find the problem... Do you have any suggestions?
Answer: Something may be shorting out in your car causing a drain on the battery. Here is the procedure we use to isolate a battery drain. Remove negative battery cable from the battery. Using a 12-volt test light, hook one end to the negative battery post the other end to the negative battery cable you just disconnected. The test light will glow or “light” if there is a drain. If the “light or glow” is faint, that is probably normal draw for the clock or computer. If the “light or glow” is bright, then there is a large drain. That should be corrected. Now start removing and replacing the fuses one by one until the light goes out; that one will be the circuit with the drain. Remember to hold in the button in the door jam for the interior lights.
Question: 1993 Chrysler Lebaron 3.0 mileage: 109,000. Could you tell me what the band adjustment and the kick down adjustment should be on the transmission?
Answer: There are no adjustments.
Question: 1992 Chrysler Convertible with V6 3.0 litre. The problem I seem to be having is with the air conditioning, the car has been sitting for about a year and the R-12 Freon leaked out so I released all the remaining Freon so it won't get mixed with the R-134. I went to buy a conversion kit to convert the R-12 to R-134 I put 2 cans of Freon to activate the system and then 1 can of compressor oil, but then I checked the pressure and it reads between the blue and yellow, now does that mean there is too much pressure instead of Freon? After I completed the conversion and checked for cold air coming out of the vents, it wasn't even cold at all it was just cool, the thicker diameter hose which is supposed to be cold and it is. I hooked up the pressure gauge, as I watched it I released the pressure out of the high side line of the system and the gauge reads now in the blue, which means its full right? The lines coming from the compress or, one is hot and one is cold that's what it's supposed to be right? I think I know what happened after the first two times that I tried to fill the system it was trying to stop the leaking of the Freon, after it leaked out some I didn't check the pressure to see what was remaining in the system so I put in more Freon, I think that's why its not getting as cold, can you tell me how to get my air conditioner back to cold? brrrr.
Answer: We don't recommend anyone recharging their own air-conditioning unit. This is a job for an expert because of the injuries that could result when the job is done wrong.
