Chevy Venture Repair Questions and Answers

MORE: Chevy Venture Repair Questions

Question: 1999 Chevy Venture Van 3400 mileage: 20,000. Upon start-up, the engine runs approximately 30 seconds and develops a "tick". The tick lasts 2-3 minutes and diminishes somewhat. From inside the van the noise is still constant. I have been told on some Chevy products there is a problem with piston skirts being too short, installed backwards or just loose. I have also been told the noise could be a lifter leaking down. Someone suggested this could be an injector knock. What is your opinion of this problem and have you experienced this annoying "tick" before? Thanks for your advice.

Answer: We have found that newer cars with roller camshafts and more moving parts inside the engine, have a tendency to develop an occasional ticking sound. This does not mean anything is wrong or about to fail.

Question: 1998 Chevy Venture mileage: 85,000. Why would my radiator water always be foamy like soap? What's the cause of this? And is there a fix? Water is clear clean coolant green. Foam is clear clean white. I notice no leaks. However, I am always having to add water to the radiator. Much steam from rear tail pip in the mornings. I have been smelling the radiator water. Sometimes I think it smells like maple if that makes any sense.

Answer: It sounds like a cracked and or a blown head gasket is causing the problem you described.

Question: 1998 Chevy Venture 87,000 miles. I have a problem with my Venture it sounds like the transmission is going out. My friend said had had the same problem and a new alternator repaired the problem. Can this be so? Do alternators make this grumbling noise when going out?

Answer: Yes, we just had a Chevy truck come in for that same problem. The easiest way to see if it is your alternator is to remove the drive belt then start it for a moment, did the noise go away? if yes, replace alternator with high quality rebuilt unit.
