Chevy Euro Car Repair Questions and Answers

Question: 2002 Chevrolet Euro  mileage: 20,000. Car starts hard on cold mornings (20 F /Michigan) even if it was driven the night before and worst when the car sits all weekend. When starting, car sounds like its only hitting on a few cylinders (smell gas at tailpipe) and will sometimes backfire through throttle body. Have used numerous water/ice removers as well as premium gas treatments. Once car starts and is revved up, it runs great! Very smooth, normal gas mileage, and at 100% normal power. Car starts fine the rest of the day and doesn't seem to be effected by rainy days. I have new spark plugs, fuel and air filter. The throttle body was extensively cleaned 30,000 miles ago. Guessing it's electrical, but only seems to effect starting on cold mornings or after car has sat for a couple of days.

Answer: Check the fuel pump pressure when you are experiencing the poor running conditions. You may have a malfunctioning fuel and/or a plugged fuel filter.

Question: 1994 Chevrolet Euro. I saw your posts on the internet and you guys really know your stuff!! Up to now, it has been difficult getting truly professional advice on this topic (even at the Chevrolet garage), so I was wondering if you could respond to what is probably a very basic question for you: PROBLEM: My Euro (88,800 mostly highway miles) now shows the amber "Service AC" light for several seconds after starting [not just bulb check, but also may not be 29 sec. as per owner's manual p.128]. The climate control is now always defaulted to the ECON mode. If I push the AUTO button, the light comes back on & it goes back to ECON mode.

SERVICES PERFORMED: I have always kept the AC system serviced, & @ 123,000 & 127,000 have had the AC system checked with dye, black light and "sniffer leak detector." It showed "seeping at the compressor and evaporator." Car has been carefully maintained since brand new (father owned up to 40k miles); although I note that at 30.5k miles the evaporator core was "blown" & replaced (surprising) by the Chevrolet garage. In the nearly 100k miles since then, I've done nothing to AC other than had it checked, periodically recharged & had the compressor relay replaced (31k & 120k).

Answer: If the amount of refrigerant in the system is low, it can cause the ac system light to come on. You will need to recharge the system and recheck your computer for trouble codes.

Question: 2001 Chevy Euro mileage: 64,000. Last July my air went out, after that I started having weird problems. You could hear the blinker blink through the radio, the needle that registers charging or not would say it was not charging, the windows would roll down slow, (Electric) the blinkers would blink slow and if you locked the doors with the car on the lights on the inside would dim. My husband is not a mechanic, but he got out the book for his 97 Chevy pick up also, the ignition switch was delaying to turn on too. He pulled the steering wheel off and replaced the ignition switch. The other problems seem to go away except for one window, it will roll down a little then it is like you have to let it cool off or set then it will go a little further? Any idea of what is going on?

Answer: Good job troubleshooting your bad ignition switch. Your remaining problem sounds like a faulty power window motor or a window that is binding in the tract.
