MORE: Cadillac Escalade Repair Questions

Question: 2002 Cadillac Escalade V8 All Wheel Drive Automatic. Are the brakes easy to change or worth $400.00, the rotors don't need cutting?

Answer: You should always cut the rotors due to warpage and need to measure the rotors for thickness. Napa will cut them for you for 10 to 15 dollars a rotor. Make sure to purchase good brakes pads not cheap ones or they will squeak badly.

Question: 2005 Cadillac Escalade Four Wheel Drive Automatic 65000 miles. Every time I turn on the heated seats they turn right off on both sides.

Answer:
The heating elements have shorted and need replacing.

Question: 2002 Cadillac Escalade V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 75010 miles. I am having problem with my 2002 Escalade. Sometimes it is showing low fuel on the gauge although I have more than half tank of fuel. But as soon as I start driving the vehicle it slowly gets back to normal. Is it the fuel sensor? or Pump? Where is it located? Please help me. Thanks in advance.

Answer: You may want to call the dealership, some of GM fuel level senders are sold separate. The cost is approximately $160. And yes, you will have to remove the fuel tank.

Question:
1999 Cadillac Escalade V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 120000 miles. Ticks only when cold starting.  Does it need valve repair?

Answer:
Where are you getting your oil changed at? Some oil filters are junk and do not have a ck valve in them to hold in the oil. In that brief moment this may cause your tick, otherwise it may be a lifter bleeding down, you can try heaver oil, like 10w 40 or 20w 50, or add some oil additives, like Stp oil treatment, or Lucas. If this doesn't help take the car to a certified mechanic.

Question: 1999 Cadillac Escalade 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic 40,000 miles. I drive this truck every 7-10 days as a second car. From Oct-April, the battery goes dead in cold weather. As soon as AAA attaches their booster, the truck immediately starts. I purchased a new battery and after 6 months I'm experiencing the same issues. How long can the average car sit before the battery goes dead? The Cadillac Dealer told me they couldn't find anything. Should I invest in a battery booster? Thanks

Answer:
If you let it sit for more than a week your battery will be dead. Do you have Onstar? There is a campaign on you truck I believe for it, if Onstar is not used, check with dealer (Cadillac dealer) with your vin # to see if it has been done. Or buy a battery disconnect, auto parts stores have them.

Question:
2002 Cadillac Escalade V8 All Wheel Drive Automatic 91,000 miles. My Escalade EXT keeps giving me a "Service Stability System" message on the message screen on the dashboard. I had the same problem last year, and the dealer found trouble codes C0205.207 stored in the system. They checked the reading from the "Steering Wheel Position" and found an internal malfunction in the "Steering Wheel Position Sensor."
QUESTION: What's going on? Is it likely that the same sensor has failed...after just one year and 3,000 miles? Do you know of any systemic problems with this model of the Escalade...and can you point me in the right direction...other than back to the dealer? If I purchased one of the better OBDII readers...will it really help me solve the problem?

Answer:
Did your new reader find any codes? Not likely that it is the same problem, but the PCM sees something it doesn't like and if your scanner wont read the code/codes, you will need to find a shop that can.

Question: 2002 Cadillac Escalade EXT. Is there any way to manually override the air suspension on this truck? The truck is sagging and the compressor isn't automatically lifting it ?

Answer: Check to see if the arm\link from control arm to frame is ok. This is what the computer uses to set ride height.

Question: 2002 Escalade that pulled up DTC C0286. The repair tech said that I should replace the EBCM. Where is it located on the vehicle? How do I reset the light once replaced? Are there any other solutions without replacing the EBCM?

Answer:
That code refers to a specified amount of leak down in the pressure of the ABS. If the proper diagnostics was followed, and the results point to a bad EBCM then go for it. The EBCM is located on the inner frame rail, left side. Usually a scanner is required to clear ABS codes.

Question:
Cadillac Escalade AWD 2002, 91K, 6.0L. Yesterday my message center said "Service stability system." I left the car at my local repair garage and received the ECM diagnosis code C0286. When I looked up the code it says "C0286 - ABS indicator lamp Circuit Shorted to B+". Can you tell me what needs to be replaced if anything. My repair garage says it needs $1,100.00 to repair. I need a second opinion. Thanks for your help.

Answer: Actually the code is mpa switch remains open or closed, the ebcm (electronic brake control module) may have to be replaced it is internal and the price is in the right range.
