BMW X3 Car Repair Questions and Answers

Question: Steering problem
2004 BMW X3 6 cyl Automatic 47,000 miles. I hear a strange crackling sound when I turn my steering wheel to either a hard left or hard right. I am ususally going at a slow speed such as turning around. It is pretty loud. My car's body also sounds like an old wooden boat with the creeking sounds as well during the same situations.

Answer: The steering wheel issue sounds like the clock spring is getting a bit noisy, this should be covered by the warranty, if not the part #61-31-8-379-091 will be what you need. As to the creaking noises in the body of the car, there is a bulletin that addresses the issue and it involves replacement of all door seals and is a warranty item as well. Happy Holidays
