BMW 750Li Car Repair Questions and Answers

MORE: BMW 750Li Repair Questions

Question: 1999 BMW 750il with a 5.4 12 cylinder. I did a tune up on it and now after the vehicle warms up it's making an ungodly howling noise down by the torque convertor area. But when you let the motor cool down and start it back up it goes away until it warms up again. What can this be? Is it something I did or pure coincidence?

Answer: Could be the PCV valves on the back end of the plenum (one on each side) it would make a sound like you described. To check this use a slack tube manometer at the crankcase, more than 6" of difference from side to side and that's where to start. Repost if more help is needed

Question: I have a 1991 BMW 750iL with a M70 V12 it has 132000 miles on it. I bought the car used and I have no history on it. The problem is when I start the car is smokes but the smoke smells different not oily. Then when it is running usually less then a minute the EML light comes on and it stops smoke but the car runs at reduced power. My question is what is wrong and what should I expect when I take it in?

Answer: The EML light is on because there is something wrong with the electronic "fly by wire" throttles. as far as the smoking goes, the age and mileage of the car, you may need a lot of engine work because of the design of the intakes and the PCV system. Good luck and repost and/or send me a private message and you can tell me all about it.
