BMW 325i Car Repair Questions and Answers

MORE: BMW 325 Repair Questions

Question: 2001 BMW 325 mileage: 55,000. I just got an oil change and found that the oil filter housing is leaking. While getting the oil change, I had noticed that the mechanic was confused about the placement of the O-rings. Could you describe how the three o-rings are supposed to be fit? Thank you in advance.

Answer: Visit the repair manuals page to find out how to describe how the O-rings fit. If we had your car here, we would compare the new O-rings to the old ones being replaced thus substituting the new ones for the old ones. If your car has proper oil pressure and the leak is fixed, then your mechanic must have put the new O-rings on properly.

Question: 1999 BMW 325 mileage: 60,000. I changed the water pump and fan clutch. Now the engine runs poorly. I removed the intake duct from the intake manifold and the engine will smooth out and stops smoking. I have replaced the airflow sensor and the temperature sensor. The engine still runs rough and smokes. The smoke smells like gas, like it is burning rich. I have checked the timing and replaced the rotor and distributor cap. I have also replaced the spark plug wires.

Answer: From what you describe, something is blocking the air intake duct.

Question: 1997 BMW 325 mileage: 90,000. How do I get the fan clutch off? Already have the radiator off and out of the way. I need to install a new fan. Thanks for any help in this regard.

Answer: The fan clutch unscrews off the water pump, however it has reversed threads (left handed threads)
