A6 Repair Questions
Question: 2002 Audi A6
6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic 67,000 miles. My car is making a humming noise
when I turn at low speeds (backing out of driveway, navigating through parking
lots, etc.). I took it in twice and the first time they found the front brake
rotors were warped so they replaced those and the noise went away for a few
weeks but then started coming back again. I took it in a second time and they
found corrosion around that area which they said can happen due to weather. So
they hit the brakes hard a few times and the corrosion came off and the noise
went away. I just got my car back the other day and I can still hear a slight
noise again. Is there something else that may have been overlooked? I know that
the car shouldn't be making any noises. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Answer: The brake pads may be glazed and causing
the noise you hear, normally if you work the brake and get them hot, the pads
will clear up, Do you hear the noise after heavy breaking? Find a quiet spot and
give the brakes a bit of a work out and see if the noise goes away.
Question: 1997
Audi A6 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 176,000 miles. Computer
codes identified:
P1101
P1106
P0306.
What are the problems and what is the repair?
Answer: P1101 and P1106 are
all MAP sensor codes, try a new MAP sensor and make sure the vacuum lines to it
and the vacuum tree are all right, also check the electrical connectors. May be
time for a new MAP P0306 is cylinder 6 misfire. You should change the spark
plug, wires, check the coil, coil pack, and listen to see if the injector is
buzzing and putting out fuel, it can cause the MAP sensor codes, or it can be
caused by the MAP sensor codes.
Question: 2003 Audi A6 6 cyl
All Wheel Drive Automatic 68,000 miles. My brake lights won't go off when I shut
off the engine. I have removed the fuse that controls them (and all the internal
dash lights) and it does not appear to be the fuse. The rear light panel works
properly for blinkers and headlights and brakes appear to be fully functional.
Help please? Any ideas where to start?
Answer: Sounds to
me that your brake on/off switch is improperly adjusted. When the brake is
depressed the switch is opened causing the lights to come on, so if it's bent and
it's not making the button push when the pedal is up the lights will stay on.
Same for a bad brake on off switch.
Question: 2004 Audi A6 6 cyl
Front Wheel Drive Automatic 58K miles. The light looks like an engine but it
indicates a malfunction in the engine. Its flashing when the car bounces up and down, vibrates when driving and when the car is stopped it vibrates but when I don't
give it gas it rides smooth. I'm taking it in for 60k maintenance very
soon. It had 50K maintenance not sure what it is. What should I do its not under
warranty. Answer: You shouldn't be driving it like that. There is damage
being done to the converter when this blinking is happening. There is a misfire
going on probably and the excessive fuel is getting to the converter.
Question: 2000 Audi A6 6 cyl All Wheel
Drive Automatic 85,000 miles. I need to replace the CV joint on
the the drivers side. Should I replace the inner as well as the outer? Should I do both sides Driver and Passenger side?Answer: I always O/Haul both ends of a shaft at the same time,
but don't worry about the other shaft unless it is also showing signs of wear.
Some do both some only what need to be done, it's a personal preference really.
Question: Seven days ago, I
picked up a brand new 2008 Audi A6, 3.2 Ltr. I drove it about 400 mostly highway
miles to Cape Cod and it now has 545 miles on the odometer. This morning I was
taking a left turn at slow speed, well under 20 mph and the car just stalled. I
coasted to the curb. Pushing the start button did nothing. I opened the car door to shut the radio off. Pushed the button again and it
ran. Took it to the
dealer. They ran their computer diagnostics and scan. Saw
nothing. Never had this problem before. They don't know what to do. I don't
either. I left it there. Should I drive it again and see if it happens. Or is
that too risky a proposition and should I ask the
dealer for a new car? Answer: If the dealer is happy that you drive the car,
I feel
that there is no reason at present to worry. If car fails again and dealer is
unable to find a cause, then you should start talking to Audi customer
relations. They will contact your dealer and keep tabs on the process of sorting
out you problem. As for asking for a new car, that MAY only happen if the
problem proves to be totally unreasonable. Give them a fair go, as new models
can sometimes be a handful even at dealer level.
Question: I have a '02
A6 Quattro with memory seats. When I hit the button for any of
the three options nothing happens unless I hold the button down until the proper
position is reached. Also the signal horn for the lights no longer sounds when
the engine is turned off and I leave the lights on. I thought it was a fuse, but
all of the fuses are good.
Answer: I feel that
both these faults should register a fault code in the body module ecu. Check
your owners hand book for any re-learn capability for the seat position set. I
will also do some home work and repost any findings.
Question: I have a '96
A6, recently the windshield washer quit spraying on the
windshield. The headlight washers will spray when the lights are on, but the
windshield sprayers won't spray.Answer: There are separate pumps for the head lamps and for the
windshield. the pump for the windshield is perhaps in need of replacement. look
for the reservoir for the washer fluid and determine witch pump has failed.
Question: I am working on a
2001 Audi A6 2.8L. I have done brakes on some domestic and foreign
cars. When changing the brake pads and rotors are there any
special tools needed? And do I need to bleed the brake system the same as I
would on any other
car?Answer:
"Special" tools are not needed. A regular compliment of
metric tools, a hammer, wire brush, and cleaning agents should get the job done.
As to brake bleeding, I would recommend the purchase of an inexpensive pressure
bleeder to perform that task (most German manufacturers recommend a brake fluid
flush every two years) Bleeding the brake system is not required if you install
new pads and rotors, it is required to bleed the brakes if you have opened the
system for some reason such as caliper or master cylinder replacement.
