MORE: Acura Vigor Repair Questions

Question: 1993 Acura Vigor 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 218,372 miles. My car is locking both front brakes after a few miles. I have to wait for about 30 minutes then it will release on its own. I recently replaced my brakes and the master cylinder and it worked well for a few months then the car started to have the same problem again.

Answer: Have the master cylinder pedal free play checked, if it is tight the pressure will be applied to the brakes, as it heats up the pressure will increase, and releasing as it cools down. Check pedal free play first and if there still is a problem re post for more checks.

Question: 1992 Acura Vigor V6 Front Wheel Drive Automatic 248,000 miles. My car will start but will not turn over or catch what could this problem be my battery is fully charged and I have a new aftermarket starter on it?

Answer: I assume you are saying that you know the vehicle runs fine if you can get the starter to kick the engine over. I would start with the cables on the battery including the ground. Check all connections. Once you have that, I would look at the starter. Yes it is "new" to the vehicle, but I assume it is a rebuilt starter and sometimes they do come out of the box defective.

Question: 1995 Acura Vigor 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 120,000 miles. My brake lights stay on after I turn the car off.

Answer: You need to check the brake pedal switch. It could be out of adjustment or defective and needs to be replaced.

Question: 1992 Acura Vigor Engine Size unknown Front Wheel Drive Manual 180,000 miles It is a 5 cylinder. The high beams work but the low beams will not and all the fuses have been checked. What could be the problem?

Answer: Check low beam relay, globs, and light switch. Try the relay first.

Question: We have Acura Vigor GS 1993. Mileage 107,000 Automatic transmission. Water temp remains steady for about 15 miles running. After running of 15 miles water temp goes up and after a few seconds it comes down and remains steady for some time. Afterwards occasionally temp goes up and down. We changed water temp sensor-but it has not helped.

Answer: Did you changed the thermostat? This controls the engine temperature.

Question: I just bought a 1994 Acura Vigor (manual trans). This car has a pro-lock alarm system. I replaced the battery and terminals (the whole ground wire and the terminal connection on the positive) because the old one was severely corroded. Now every time I turn on the headlights, parking lights, hit the brakes (tail lights), and even hit the power locks, all of the other electrical (radio, interior lights, even engine especially with the bright lights on-it almost stalls) gets really dim (the radio even shuts off with the lights on). I have voltage checked the battery with the car on and off and it reads in regulations. I've also checked everything I can see and nothing (that I changed or repaired) seems to be grounding out or anything. I can't get a Chilton repair manual for another week (it's on order) and I've only had the car for 5 days! Please someone give me some kind of good news!?

Answer: Make really sure that the ground (-) its making good solid contact with the frame....

Question: I have a 1993 Acura Vigor GS, with about 155k miles on it. The problem started when I left my lights on, which caused the battery to die. After jumpstarting it, I drove it home o.k. but when I started it again after I charged the battery it just died. Now when I try to start it, it does nothing. No dash lights or sound. I then found out that the main battery fuse (100 amps) had blown. When I replaced it, it broke again right as I reconnected the battery. I have no idea what is causing this, Anyone have any suggestions?

Answer: That fuse is from the battery to the alternator, try carefully unhooking the alt (all wires) and see if the fuse still blows.

Question: I have a 1992 Automatic Acura Vigor with around 138,000 miles on it that has issues starting. Typically it will start and run fine in the mornings and the evenings but not so much during the day. However it will go through spurts of starting for a few days then one day it will switch and will not start. When it doesn't start it will typically have to sit there for a few hours before starting again. I have taken the car to three mechanics and they cannot solve the problem. They have checked the car on the computer and nothing. What could possibly be the problem as I typically leave the car on instead of turning it off to go into a store? Also, the area where the muffler is connected has rusted through so what is the expected cost of having this repaired? Please keep in mind my knowledge of cars is very limited. Thanks

Answer: Did your mechanics check the EFI relay for bad connections or replacement. I would start with that. On the exhaust, I would call the local muffler shop to get an estimate of cost.

Question: I have a 92 Acura Vigor Gs, with a 5cyl engine, 240,000 miles, it runs great most of the time, but on occasion especially when its raining the check engine light comes on and it runs poorly like it is only running on four cylinders instead of five, and it won't go above 3 thousand RPM's. I have taken it to three shops, including the Acura dealership and they all have come up with the error code 4, which points to the crank angle sensor. I replaced the crank angle sensor, timing belt and water pump but that has not solved the problem. It still messes up and still comes up with error code 4!! Have you ever heard of this problem? Or do you have any ideas on what the problem could be Help!!!

Answer: It sounds like it is running on four cylinders. Have you replaced the plug wires? Make sure they are seated down correctly on the distributor. Check the distributor and the gasket.
