Changing Electric Power Door Locks (continued)

(always wear protective safety goggles and gloves before work begins)

Step 6 of 8.Removing connecting rods

Lock Assembly

There are three connecting rods that must be removed from the door lock assembly, the manual lock control rod, the door handle control rod and the exterior door lock assembly (outside the door).

Step 7 of 8. Remove door latch/lock mount bolts

Car Lock

Remove the mounting bolt from the door latch/lock assembly.

Step 8 of 8. Replace the door latch/lock assembly

Electric Door Lock

After the door latch/lock mount bolts have been removed, release all electrical connectors and remove the control rods and insert onto new latch/lock assembly. Transfer control rods one at a time to avoid confusion. Most electrical connectors have a notch and only connect one way. After transfer of the control rods and electrical connectors reassemble door latch assembly. Note before installing the door panel, test the latch and lock operation to insure proper installation.

Purchase Power Door Locks - The electric door lock is operated by the control switches in the drives side or passage side compartment.


 

Purchase Power Window Motor - Power window motors can move the window up and down. Electric window motors are a normal service item.

Common Problems

1. Electric door lock fails to operate.

2. Door latch wears and will not close completely.

3. Connector rods become disconnected and cause failure of one or more door latch/lock functions.
