I experience a problem quite often and it doesn't matter what computer I am on where the unread or new postings are no long tagged or highlighted for me. It forces me to wade through numerous messages that I don't need to and yet I may miss some posting that I have been trying to follow. Is there a better way to manage the postings and not let this happen? I might have 10 messages that I have not read, close the forum and when I come back they are unmarked and I have no way of digging for them again without searching all of the messages.

I see your problem and know what it is. The new posts that are highligted is new posts for that session. You do not have to explicitly read each one of them. But that might be a better way, atleast for our moderators. I will look into a fix for it.
