Hi, I have a fiat stilo multiwagon 03 plate, 1.9 its done about 45,000 miles. Everytime i go over a bump or pot hole there is a loud thud noise and bad vibrations through the car. It is coming from the o/s rear. I have replaced the shock absorbers on both sides at the rear, but this has not helped. Is it the bushes? I look forward to your reply,
Kind regards,
Paul

Hello as luck would have it i've just replaced my rear suspension bushes on my mutliwagon today so i can 100% guarantee that's the noise you're hearing, have you visited the fiat forum uk? they have some more details on this part including part number on there eper parts section and where you can get it from fiat aren't too keen on replacing the bush themsleves as it's bloody awkward to remove and replace took me and a mate most of today to do mine with the use of a blacksmiths vice to press the new ones in and some big hammers to remove the old ones unfotunately to replace them you'll need to remove the entire rear subframe and springs from the car to work on it seperately which means disconnecting all the brake hoses and bleeding the brakes after refitting it. some fiat garages have been known to try and get people to replace the entire subframe cause they cannot be bothered to replace the bushes some quoting around a £1000 to do the work. The bushes on their own cost around £15 each and some specialist fiat mechanics are quoting around £250 ish including parts to do the job. Hope this is of some help took me a long time to get round to sorting it but i'm glad i did mulitwagons are one of the best estates around but this is their major downfall but worth fixing.
Part number for the bushes on mine was 51795336

With all due respect after dismantling the entire rear subframe on my multiwagon today I 100% guarantee the noise he's hearing is the same noise my multiwagon has been making and is no longer making after replacing the bushes, the rear suspension on a multiwagon is an extremely simple design with nothing else on it to make the noises. here's some piccy of the bush and subframe. There's multiwagons all over the country righ now clunking and banging and in my opinion the whole lot should have been recalled to replace it under warranty but lucky for fiat they all last for around 50,000 miles.
And if it aint his bushes that are mullered i'll eat my old ones how's that for a guarantee

Cheers Paul thought the pics might help couldn't upload em so had to link them hence a bit big, one other thing if your changing the rear bushes you may as well replace the front drop links at the same time cause the end bushes on them are made out of the same shite mozarella cheese rubber crap that the rear bushes are made out of £20 each worth changing though before they fall off on there own like mine did going over a pot hole.

Awful clean hands though...musta been a helper |
Clean hands are my mates and mine are the same latex and nitrile gloves to thank for that and massive tub of swarfega, not into absorbing brake fluid oil and grease through me skin definitaly not a gbood thing to let all that crap be absorbed into your blood stream.
How did i post the big pics easy peasy, upload your pics to photobucket then post the img link next to the pics it gives you the link plus the [img] bit each side of the link.

I believe this is a known problem. I have had both my rear gas shocks replaced and the noise is still their. I believe it could be the rear axle bushes ? Is this likely and if so, how much of a job is it to get done and how much would a dealer charge ?
any ideas or info would be appreciated thanks.
