This is a crazy question about my the stick shift. I recently noticed that after about half an hour of driving the stick shift metal heats up and the floor boards near the base of where the stick shift is located also heat up. I did not know what is causing this but it worried me so I had the transmission fluid checked and changed. This didn't help. The floor and stick are still heating up quite a bit. Is this because the transmission itself is heating up or is it something else? The area that is heating up is about 3 to 4 feet behind the actual engine block, and while I have not been able to get under the car most of what I can see in this area is the exhaust system.

Take a look underneath, there may be a heat sheild missing the goes over the exhaust to prevent heat transfer.
