I have BMW x5 3.0I 2002 81,400 miles no prior
maintence.
The blower continues to run with the engine off.
Pulling a 50 amp fuse labeled blower is the only way to stop the blower and prevent the battery from
running down.

Would be very thankful for any help.

Your problem is the final stage that controls the fan needs to be replaced. It is located just behind and below the glove box behind the upper carpet trim. Just remove the carpet trim and you can see it, the connector is a black 5-pin, you'll see its real easy.
The final stage may be available online somewhere
The dealer will have these as a stock item, they fail all the time.

Dr Hagerty...I have a similar problem with my 2000 528i. Where is the final stage that controls the fan in this vehicle and how do I get to it?

Thanks in advance.

it is below and behind the glovebox.
first remove the plastic cover just above the passenger foot well area by pulling it out(it pops out, no tools required) then remove the screw that holds the carpet in place and the carpet pulls out to the rear.
the final stage is behind a piece of open cell foam(if the foam is still there) remove the torx screws and install the final stage. you kind of have to "stand on your head" to see the final stage. if you have already purchased a replacement you will be able to visualize its installation.
its pretty straight forward, give yourself half an hour.
BMW warranty time says about 15 minutes.
good luck and repost if needed!
