Brakes problem
2005 Other Mercedes Benz Models V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 44,000 miles

How do you get the pins out of the calipers on a CL500 mercedes 2005, they have a small pin like end and the other is a flat end, each without bolt heads? To replace the front pads if you can remove the pins, remove the retainng clip and push back the cylinder can you just insert the new pads wihtout having to remove the calipers?

The brake calipers have pins in them to hold the clip and pads in place. To remove the pins, take a punch (same diameter as the pin) and hit the pins out. The pins go in from the inside so to take them out you hit the pointed end. Once you have removed the pins and retainer, remove and replace one pad at a time. Once one pad is out, push the pistons back and replace it with the new pad. Then do the same for the other pad. Mercedes has a special tool to compress the pistons back once both pads have been removed. Since you wont have this tool, the easiest way is by doing one pad at a time. Good luck.

Thanks for the tips on the front brakes, now how do you do the rear brakes on the Mercedes 2005 CL 500? They look different than the front ones. Thanks!

Glad you asked. The Rear brakes are also a Fixed caliper like the Front calipers. So actually they are designed the same way, but there is only One pin in the rear caliper. Pound out the one pin and take out clip and pads like I explained for the front. Just to mention, replacing the rotors are a good thing to do every other brake change or unless you have warpage. Good luck with the brakes.
