Engine Performance problem
2005 Buick La Crosse 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 40000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I bought this car new a couple of years ago..everything has been good up till now. I have noticed that my car is using(Burning) a quart of oil for every 1000 miles driven. There seems to be no other problems, it has good gas mileage and good performance. What could be causing the car to burn this oil.
you may have a faulty oil control ring in one cylinder, if so there will be a whitish Grey deposit building up on a spark plug, pull the plugs and inspect for this first. Start here.
This condition may be caused by the retaining ring on the exhaust valve stem seal not securely holding the seal on the cylinder head boss. If this occurs, the exhaust valve stem seal(s) may move off the cylinder head boss and no longer provide a sealing function between the exhaust valve stem and the valve guide.
You will need to replace the exhaust valve seals if they are not fully seated.
