Air Conditioning problem

Ok I have a 2004 chevy imapla LS with onstar etc. 3.8 v6. My question is I recently had a problem with my A/C It was working 3 days ago and then it just slowly went from Cold to hot. So i bought so freeon. for the car and put some in but it just was blowing hot air and when i turn the A/C on i hear a clicking noise like its starting but wont start. I took it to MIDAS and (AS USUAL) the told me something like my Compressor needs to change. I dont know bout that cause the MOTOR is working but i just dont hear the compressor turning on. I can feel the air going in the compressor cause it gets cold but no cold air.

What can the problem most likely be.

I also got my sepertine belt changed last week cause it had a hairline crack on it.

I also have the common problem of the gauges not working!!
