Transmission problem
2004 Buick Rendezvous 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 99200 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I have a 2004 Buick Rendevous. The transmission started acting up. I took it to the dealer because it has a warranty that I purchased from a 3rd party company. The dealer checked it and said the trans was bad and needed to be replaced. The cause I was told was a solenoid had failed and that caused the trans to fail and according to the dealer parts of the trans had melted. The warranty company is now denying my claim because they say the cause was electrical and not any of the internally lubricated parts. The dealer has nothing to do with this warranty company. I purchased this on my own. Does this cause mak

The solenoid is an electrical part that controls hydraulic parts. If the electrical part of the solenoid failed and caused the internal parts of the trans to fail, then it was an electrical failure.

What were the codes?
Which solenoid failed?
Which internal trans parts were damaged as a result?

If you can get this info for me, I might be able to verify if the diagnosis is legit.

The computer listed 4 codes
They were.
P0463, P0520, P0751 and P1811. I was told 2 of these codes were for fuel level sender and oil pressure switch.

The dealer's paperwork states " FOUND CLUTCH PACKS (IN TRANSMISSION) WELDED TOGETHER DUE TO SIFT SOLONOID SHORTING OUT"

As a GM Certified Transmission Tech, I have seen this senario in the past, the p0751 code is for the 1-2 shift solenoid. in most cases, it had shorted out, causing the plastic in it to melt and thereby sealing the vent on the solenoid, which in trn caused your hard part failure. I actually have an 08 Lucurne on my hoist right now that has done the same thing.

now the p1811 code is for the trans Pressure control Solenoid failing, these are common among the 4T65 Transmissions, but they don't cause immediate damage to a trans, when the P1811 code is set in the PCM, by default the PCM commands the trans pressures to full. there fore you may have noticed the harshness in your shifting.

I am assuming you have since had repairs done, in most cases, which GM pricing, it is usuaully cheaper for a cusmtomer who is paying out of pocket to have a SRTA unit installed, which comes with a much better warranty...
