Transmission problem
2004 BMW 330 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 42000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I have heard many horror stories about dealerships and the terrible work they do, I just purchased my first BMW and need to know if I should find a non dealership transmission repair or is the dealer the best choice? if you know of a great "the best" BMW repair shop for general maintenance please advice! I live in the Dallas / Fort Worth area.

Thank you . . .

2004 BMW 330i 42k

everything is working ok, this is my first BMW and so I don't have any thing to compare it to. The transmission doesn't shift as strong as I would like. I just want to have it serviced and checked out by someone that really knows BMW transmissions; someone with integrity that will not try to take advantage of the situation.

Thank you,
Mike

Before you have work performed on the transmission, take time to obtain the DCS report on your car from the dealer, this will tell you if there has been updates performed to the EGS(electronic transmission control module) and take time to allow a BMW service technician and his or her service writer to try to assist you. So many of the issues in the newer BMW cars are being fixed with software upgrades that independent shops may not have access to. This is not an endorsement of the dealership, this is allowing them to be of service if and only if you feel comfortable being with them. The transmission in your car is considered a sealed unit and should not/does not require maintenance until 100k. Having spoken the party line, I acknowledge your desire to perform preventive service and if the car is still under warranty, please be aware that work performed outside the dealer on the transmission may void that warranty. Also the fluid for the transmission is very expensive and is unique to those transmissions.
