Transmission problem
2004 Acura TSX 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 80,000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I have an 04 Acura TSX 6speed. The Clutch i have has 30,000 miles on it. It goes into gear fine and everything seems to work fine. When im in any gear and i press the gas (usually at low rpms), the rpms just raise but the car doesnt go anywhere and then the car shakes alil and then it grabs. I dont think its the clutch slipping but maybe something else? I thought that the clutch would need to be worn for it to slip but it only has 30K miles. But like i said, everthing else works fine. I can go into gear fine.. its just that when its in gear i have to press the gas so lightly. And it does this even in cruise control! I also hear a faint squeel sometimes going into first gear and now when crusing in 6th gear. Sounds like a cricket when going 60mph in 6th gear. What can be the issue? Clutch? Throw out bearing? Master/Slave Cylinder?

Thank you for the donation.
Your symptoms are constant with a faulty clutch, the hydraulics sound OK, as you are able to operate the clutch and change gears, but it is a drivablity problem. This could well be the clutch plate is contaminated with either engine or gearbox oil which can cause this clutch slip you are experiencing, I feel that you will have to remove the box and inspect the clutch for damage or contamination.

if i replace the clutch, will engine or gearbox oil contaminate it again if thats the problem? What will cause the clutch to have that oil on it?

If oil contamination is the cause of your problems, it will more than likely be the front gearbox oil seal, as the engine rear mail is behind the fly wheel and you would see oil leaking externally for this to be the case, you will have to pull the box ans inspect.

Ok, now if this is the problem, how would i go about fixing it? Will this be costly? Im gonna take it to the acura dealership and have them install a new clutch but will they be able to see this leak while replaceing the clutch? How should i go about having them fix the oil seal?

The oil leak if that is what the problem is, will be very visible, there is a seal for the input shaft and it is quite a simple job to replace it if require when the box is out, the seal should only be a few dollars and it should only take 15 Min to replace when the box is removed to inspect the clutch.

Is this seal something i need to get from the dealer or is it a sealant that i can get from a parts store like Napa or AutoZone? Or should any shop have it on hand?
