Air Conditioning problem
2004 Acura MDX 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic 52000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I live in south florida. During a 2 hr trip on the highway, noted that the A/C started cycling from cold to warm. Probably did this 3 or 4 times over a 10 to 15 min period before it finally quit. Was driving the car out of town and took it to a local repair shop that was a generalist but seemed competent. They determined that the system was charged to spec and found that voltage was making it to the clutch but that the clutch was not energizing. Diagnosis was that the clutch was bad. I can DIY alot of car problems. But A/C requires specialized tools. Anything you suggest I can do to the clutch to get it to engage. I can get access by removing the right front tire and the plastic inner wheel well. I have tapped on it and pushed on the wires located on top of the compressor. No changes. Can I replace the clutch with out removing the compressor from the car and having to evac the system. Can I buy the clutch if I can replace it or do I have to buy a new compressor with a clutch or just have a A/C shop do the work. I am betting $1500 to repair by a shop. Maybe $500 to $700 if can accomplish this myself. Any advice is appreciated.
