Engine Mechanical problem

my 03 sentra gxe was acting one day as i was driving as if it was trying to cut off on me if i got to 15 mph or higher so i took it to auto zone and they told me a camshaft senser is the problem but i dont know about cars so my question is can a camshaft senser do that? now keep in mind after i made it home. later that day i tried to start the car and it wont start. however it acts like it does.
