Engine Performance problem
2003 Hyundai Santa Fe 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 98000 miles

This just started about a week ago. When I push the gas pedal the car hesitates to go forward. It does not matter how long you have driven in that session. When stopped the car seems to vibrate. The check engine light is on but did not come on till yesterday. Any possible suggestions so that when I take to mechanic I seem somewhat smart would be appreciated.
