Engine Mechanical problem

I've had this car die on me in traffic and not start. sit for a bit and able to drive it home. THen sometimes I start it and it dies. I have to hold down gas peddle and brake with left foot to get it home. then it just plain died. So we replaced the alternator. Well had to do that twice not sure if the first Alternator was bad. 9 months later. Again! Yesterday driving to work taking the off ramp the darn thing died. I noticed my radio stopped working then relized I had no power. So here we go again! What the heck is causing this to burn out Alternators there must be an underlying issue.
