Engine Cooling problem
2003 Dodge Stratus 4 cyl Automatic

My car overheated one day and we changed the thermostat and also one of the hose's had a leak so we cut off the part that had a hole and clamped it back on. My car does good when I am driving it but when I am parked or in traffic it starts to heat up and then even the red indicator light turns on and then when I start to drive or rev the engine it goes back to normal. What could be the problem???

Check your fans. They are not turning on when they are supposed to. Unplug the connector to the fans. Use jumper wires, connect the fan connectors directly to the battery. Do on both fans. If they work, your fan is good. Then check the fan relay in the relay box, next to your intake box. Try swapping a couple of relays around. You can also use the jumper wires to bypass the relay to see if the relay is at fault. If fans turn on, replace the temp sending unit.
