Air Conditioning problem

My car has a problem when stopped at a light it starts acting like it's going to die. You can hear the A/C cycle on and off. Turn the A/C off and it's fine. While at the light the A/C stops blowing cold and turns lukewarm. Before this the car was great. The A/C worked either when you were driving or stopped. Today I got in and it never did blow cold. Just lukewarm. The temp outside has been in the mid 80's the last few days but humid. Before that while it was still having this problem it was in teh 100's.
