2003 Cadillac CTS 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 66000 miles

I have a check engine light that has come on and the local auto zone tells me it is code 4096 or emmissions evaporator. They suggest new gas cap, which I have done today but cadillac says it needs a new emissions canister that cost around $300.00 installed. Also when I put gas in the car it runs rough for about 5 to 6 seconds when you start it up after filling it up, problem started right after check engine light came on.
