2003 BMW X5 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic 52,000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
Hello Sir, I got a Bmw x5, 3.0 liter sports package and my right outer axle booth is cracked. Could it be possible for you guys to walk me through what is the right way to remove it. I'm also a mechanic but this is my first time to remove the axle of Bmw X5 3.0 liter. Thanks.

This will require some special tools. First remove the wheel, then the 12 point nut for the axle, then the brake caliper ( use a wire to suspend it out of the way ) and the rotor, then the two bolts holding the strut, this will allow access to the half shaft, here is where the special tools come in, the axle needs to be pushed out of the wheel and is splined, sometimes you can tap it out with a punch and a hammer, but I always use the BMW special tool that bolts to the hub and has a threaded shaft that pushes the axle out, replace the boot and then again using the special tool, thread the special tool onto the axle and pull it back through. The part number for this tool is 83-30-0-492-169
