Engine Performance problem

Less than three thousand miles ago I had a tune up at the VW dealership. They did everything but replace the engine filer because I have a K&N that I put in a year ago. About a month later I went to Boston. After coming home from a long trip to Boston my car started idling very hard at stops. It shakes the car a bit. It is more of a flicker of the RPM gauge. What do you think? Also while they were tuning it up they had replaced a small valve that regulated the gas it was running too rich and it made the engine light come on. But it was on for less than a week before I got it in to the shop.
