Engine Mechanical problem
2003 Acura MDX 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 116,00 miles

Car began shifting with difficulty and then (within 30 miles) would not move forward. Told problem transmission. When the mechanic went to change out transmission, found mixed fluids, I am now told car needs new engine AND new transmission. 116,000! miles.

mixed fluids where? in the transmission? and what kind of fluids?where you told of what kind of damage? engine oil is kept in the engine and trans fluid in the trans. they don't meet anywhere, someone had to put it there for them to mix,wether by mistake or not it can only be human error that would cause it.unless it was coolant found which would indicate a cooling system problem not necessarily meaning engine replacement
acura has an extended warranty on transmissions because it's such a common problem(120,000 miles i
think) try to call the dealer first
could you let me know exactly what they said about the engine?

Mixed fluids in the tranny can't possibly hurt the engine...better get another mechanic!
