Engine Mechanical problem
2002 Nissan Xterra 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 85000 miles

How can I tell if my starter is bad? The battery is brand new and it sometimes starts and other times it just sits there and doesn't even make a sound when the key is turned but all the lights come on. When I slam the hood it starts sometimes as well. Thanks.
