Engine Mechanical problem
2002 Lincoln LS V8 Front Wheel Drive Automatic 75000 miles

I recently acquired an 02 lincoln ls and have had a few major issues come up in the short time that ive had it..

check engine light keeps blinking and according to manual it is the exhaust causing this. had the exhaust replaced still comes on.

started to over heat and the culprit was believed to be the thermostat, replaced it and within 20 min all water from resevoir drained to driveway.

there is oil in the air intake line driver side and oil in the rear 2 plugs on driver side.

think it may be head gasket but there is no white smoke no matter what..

any ideas???

Problem 1

CEL On scan the computer for code/s again might no be coming from the exhaust system.

Problem 2

Overheating could be airlock in the system after thermostat replacement try bleeding it-Don't work get the cooling system block and pressure tested to rule out a blown headgasket, cracked head or block

To confirm the water pump

One way to test for a bad water pump is to squeeze the upper radiator hose when the engine is hot and idling. Careful, because the hose will be HOT! If you do not feel much coolant circulating through the hose when you rev the engine, the pump may be bad. The other cause might be a bad thermostat that is not opening properly (remove and inspect the thermostat), or a clogged radiator.
