Transmission problem

My question is having just had a rebuilt transmission put in my Kia the engine light keeps coming on and the speedometer needle keeps going up and down eratically which the garage noticed before I got the car back, but it has since continued to do the same along with the engine light. I also noticed after picking the car up I put gas in the car and the needle registed just over a quarter of a tank and today it still reads the same after putting in $25 of gas in less than 12 hrs could the transmission be the cause of this as well? Thanks
